Archery ECA - 2nd Meeting

On our second meeting in Archery, we only have 12 students in total this is due to many students are joining the BBS Retreat.

Nevertheless, few points to remember after today's session:
  1. Always remember the proper stance for set-up position (turn your elbow in, left-shoulder down, and right elbow up)
  2. After you shoot your arrows, stay grounded and do not change your position.
  3. If you are wearing shorts, make sure it is at least it covers your knee
  4. Use shoes because you should always rest your bow at your feet. Do not let it stand on the ground. It will damage the bow.
Below are some pictures from today's activities.

JC1 Business Studies - Pocari Sweat Factory Visit

On Tuesday, 7 August 2012, JC1 students taking Business Studies went to visit Pocari Sweat's factory. Pocari Sweat is a isotonic produced by PT. Amerta Indah Otsuka. We departed from the school at around 7am, and it took us roughly 2 hours before we reached the factory. The factory is located at Cicurug, (if you're going to Pelabuhan Ratu / Sukabumi, you'll definitely pass the factory).

Once we reached the factory, we were escorted to their presentation room (it fits 120 people) and the presentation starts.

Valdy's getting excited about going to the factory

Pocari Sweat sent a bus for our students

You might not be able to see it, but the view behind the presentation room is Mt. Salak (yes, it's where the Sukhoi incident happened).

In the presentation we learned a lot about Pocari Sweat's history. From the research and development to their success story in Japan. After the presentation, we're given Pocari Sweat to replenish our energy. And, even better, we're getting our Pocari from a vending machine imported from Japan!!!!

It's the Pocari Vending Machine!!! You don't see it everyday

It's Pocari TIME!!

Nice cold thirst quenching Pocari!

After quenching our thirst, we went to visit the production process. We could not take any pictures during this time, so no pictures here. Nevertheless, here are few interesting pictures in the factory.

Archery ECA - Schedule Change and Reminder

We're changing the time of Archery ECA practice from 7:30 - 9:30 am into 8am - 10am. This is effective immediately as of 5 August 2012. The practice will still take place at Senayan every Saturday.

Also, for those of you who haven't completed the payment for Archery ECA please be reminded that the due date for this payment is by Friday, 10 August 2012.
Archery ECA - Basic and Fundamentals

For the first time ever, BBS students attended the Archery ECA at Archery Range, Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan. During the meeting students learned the fundamentals of Archery, including some basic terms.

Few of the basic terms the students learned are (this would be useful for the Archery ECA students as well):

  • Recurve/ Compound Bow

  • Arrows: Bamboo / Aluminum / Carbon Fiber
  • Nock
  • Arm Guard
  • Finger tap
Few basic things that students should remember NOT to do during the archery is:
  1. Never release the string without any arrows
  2. Never aim your fully set bow&arrow at anyone
  3. After releasing the arrow follow through your stance and keep focused on the target (don't talk to your peers afterwards)
  4. Do not change stance after you release your arrow. Hold your position until you use all of your arrows
During  the first meeting students also learned the basic movement to set-up their bow and arrows:
  1. Raise your bow and bring it to basic position
  2. Fix your upper arms / turn it down
  3. Lower your left shoulder (the one holding the bow)
  4. Raise your right shoulder (the one pulling the string)
  5. Pull the string using your right hand until the side of your thumb reaches your cheekbone (do not grab the string)
  6. Release the string
Before using the real bow and arrows, student practice this basic movement using rubber.

Here are some pictures of the student shooting the arrows in GBK.

Look at all these happy faces of the students in the Archery ECA. We have a total of 20 students who attended this first meeting. Sadly one of them had to go home early. Nevertheless, it was a fun activities and hopefully these students will take Archery seriously and who know they might even compete in national or international level in the future.
